Five new sociable, sustainable homes within the Meridian Water regeneration area in North London are nearing completion. This complicated backland site will be a wonderful addition to Stolon Studio’s sociable housing portfolio and offer new homes in the area. Moments away from Meridian Water Station, near to the North Circular and close to the River Lea corridor, it is an interesting and transitional location.
Designed for a small, ethical developer, there are four houses around a shared courtyard, with a fifth house – the gatehouse- over the entranceway. The work is part of a wider initiative by the Mayor of London, where small sites are tendered out to small developers. These efficient homes bridge the transition from the nearby industrial sheds to the Victorian residential neighbourhood.
Recycled galvanised metal cladding is combined with soot-flecked bricks, 100% recycled plastic decking and biodiverse rain planters. Inside, the theme continues – recycled content tiles, and cocoa flecked recycled lino flooring centres the new homes on well-being and natural products.
